I'm honestly kind of at a deep loss to understand why people resist upgrading.
The security, stability and feature improvements count in the 100's to 1000's. Keeping your OS/Apps updated is (at least in my opinion) Rule#1. iTunes has nothing to do with Jailbreak usage. "I think it will also ruin my jailbreak on my phone"

"ALSO, when it upgrades to 10.9 will it also update Apple Itunes?" Just for security-improvements alone you should upgrade. I've got the Yosemite 10.10 beta running on a Late 2007 Macbook Pro with 4gb of RAM and an SSD. Both of those things will dramatically improve your machines performance. you should max out your RAM and consider an SSD. How noticeable those changes are to YOU is going to depend on a wide range of variables that is hard to predict. so yeah, it's quite possible you'll see changes in performance. Jumping from 10.6 to 10.9 is a significant change (to underlying codebase). "I have read on several sites that upgrading the OS could lead to lower performance and slower loading times on the older laptops? Is this a myth?" If you have any other questions I'm sure we can help you out!

I'm in the same boat as you about missing the old itunes but all the options are there to make it feel very similar to how it used to.ġ0.9 is a nice piece of software, I think you'll enjoy it coming from 10.6 and the upgrade process is very painless. I'm not sure which version of iTunes ships with 10.9 but it will be newer than what you have.

You can always go back by reformatting your drive with your install DVD but that will wipe of all your data. If you update from the app store it shouldn't touch your home folder (AFAIK, but I may be wrong in this specific case) so you shouldn't lose anything but bad things can always happen, especially when upgrading. Not even just for upgrading, hard drives die all the time and take data with them. You really should make sure you have a backup of everything, whether that's a time machine backup or not.
I'm actually on the Yosemite Beta now and it's still running super fast even with all the blur effects and such.
I have a 2010 15" and I experienced no noticeable slow down, that said I have an SSD, but it's the same I had with 10.6. (I think it will also ruin my jailbreak on my phone)Īnyone with knowledge of the update I would appreciate your opinion. With this said if I upgrade there is no going back.ĪLSO, when it upgrades to 10.9 will it also update Apple Itunes? I really hate the newer version and I have forgone updates on it for several years. I really don't want to reformat this drive to work with time machine as my non-mac computers will not be able to use it. I have read on several sites that upgrading the OS could lead to lower performance and slower loading times on the older laptops? Is this a myth?Īdditionally is there any other information I should know about before upgrading? Right now I have a backup drive with my pictures, files and music on it. Since 10.9 is free it seems like the go to option. Today I have discovered many of the applications I have grown to enjoy no longer function on 10.6 and require 10.7 or higher. My current OSX is 10.6.8 and until recently have never really considered upgrading. I currently own a 15" mid 2009 Macbook pro.
